At the expense of being the most classic, clichéd healthy food blogger in the world, I absolutely LOVE starting my day with a green smoothie. It's easy, filling, and fueling. It's one of the best ways to get my greens in at breakfast time and it's a great meal to take on the go when I have a busy morning. When I have a smoothie for a meal, I need to make sure it's actually equivalent to a meal. That means it needs to contain real, whole foods and include protein, fat, fiber, and healthy carbs. I'm a girl who usually eats a huge quantity of food. I like having a full plate and need a large volume of food to feel full. And I'm telling you, this really does keep me full and energized for 4+ hours until lunch. This recipe is nothing fancy, but delicious and checks off all the nutrient boxes, making it a winner.
Ingredients:
1 scoop protein powder (I used garden of life's raw organic chocolate)
1-1 1/2 cups almond milk
1 cup kale, washed and stems removed
1 1/2 Tbsp hemp seeds
1- inch piece of frozen banana, for thickness and sweetness (you can do more, this is the size I use to make sure I don't have a blood sugar surge)
handful of ice
Instructions:
Add all ingredients to a blender and blend until smooth.
If you want to be extra, drink out of a trendy glass mason jar. Otherwise, any old cup will do and it'll taste just as good.
